A frame from Ed and Anne’s Wedding Anniversary Photography session. We had an awesome time even with Ed letting the helium filled balloons go before we had a chance to use them, it ended in laughter but more on that later.
This particular frame below is shot on a Speed Graphic from the 1950’s. It’s a large format camera, 4X5. Produced by Graflex in Rochester, New York. The Speed Graphic is commonly called the most famous press camera.Various Graphic models were produced between 1912 and 1973. From what I can ascertain, my particualr model was made around the 50’s. It’s a conversational piece when I bust it out of the kit bag!
Fitted with an Aero Ektar lens which was used in World War II it takes a unique image in the sense of the depth of field. It’s the real deal, no filters. It’s not perfect, it’s a little soft and it’s not sharp but to me that’s the whole point, it’s an aesthetic that I am really drawn to. Almost a sense of nostalgia.
And with this camera and lens the actual medium I am shooting on is polaroid, Fuji 100c 45. I have reclaimed the negative by removing the back with a little bleach and elbow grease, the backing of the negative comes away. After cleaning the back off you are left with a 4X5 negative. I then proceed to scan in the 4X5 negative and this is the end result.
